AN Ashington man has walked away with a brand new £8,000 Volkswagen Polo from the Benfield Motor Group after entering a competition on local radio station Metro Radio.
The station has been running their 'Payday is Prize Day' promotion in conjunction with the MetroCentre since June this year and the car is the latest in a long line of fabulous prizes that have been given away.

Twenty finalists were randomly picked from the thousands of entries and one lucky winner's name was read out on Brian Moore's Home Run.

Once Donald McLane's name was read out on air, he had 30 minutes in which to contact the station and claim his prize.

With only 12 minutes to spare Donald spoke to Brian and bagged himself a brand new car.

Donald was given a choice of five cars including a Renault Clio Campus, a Kia Picanto and a Nissan Micra, however, he decided to opt for the Volkswagen Polo 1.2 E as he said it would be perfect for his wife Mary.

Donald said: "The most I have ever won is £10 on the lottery so to be honest it didn't feel real until we collected the car.

"I would like to thank everyone at the Benfield Motor Group, Metro Radio and the MetroCentre as this has been a truly unforgettable experience."

Nigel McMinn, managing director of the Benfield Motor Group, said: "I am delighted that such a lovely couple have been able to benefit from this promotion.

"Benfield are working hard to cut the cost of motoring for our customers, but this is perhaps the most extreme example."
